Legends Trail: Where To Eat?

The villages of Tatev-Khustup section of the Legends Trail are not indulged in tourism and there are very few places to eat, yet you can enjoy delicious rural, eco-friendly food at Legends Trail guest houses.

In the village of Aghvani you can have a delicious meal at Margarita's B&B, in Tandzaver - at Knarik’s, in the village of Verin Khotanan - at the B&B of the same name, at Anna’s, in Antarashat - at Roman Harutyunyan’s B&B, in the village of Bekh - at Alex B&B, and in Vachagan - at Khustup B&B.

There are shops in some villages along the Legends Trail. There is a large store in the village of Verin Khotan, in Vachagan there is only a small store, while in Tandzaver there is a small kiosk. In some villages you can buy dairy (milk, plain yogurt, cheese, eggs) directly from the villagers. You can inquire about it from your B&B hosts.

If you are planning a tour with a large group, you can contact guides David Hakobyan and Hayk Melkonyan. They will arrange your meals throughout the tour. And if you only want lunchboxes, contact the guides in advance.

The last 3 villages of the Legends Trail - Bekh, Vachagan and Bagaburj are relatively close to Kapan. It takes you only an hour to hike to Kapan, while a taxi to Kapan costs only 1000 drams (about 2 US dollars). There are restaurants in the Darist and Lernagorts hotels. Elegant Restaurant offers a rich and tasty menu, but prices are slightly above the average for the city. This restaurant has one drawback, there is no non-smoking area. The Tumanyans’ restaurant has a delicious menu, pleasant service, and a non-smoking lounge.

There is also pizzeria "Tashir" in Kapan, where you can eat tasty and inexpensive food.

In spring, from April to June, in many cafes and bistros of Kapan you can always find "zhengyalov hats" - a flat bread with local herbs, if you want to quickly refresh yourself without harm to your health this is just the thing.

 Springs of drinking water can be found all along the Trail, as well as in all the villages along the Trail. Here everyone drinks water from the spring. But if for some reason you do not want to drink spring water, take bottled water with you.

In the forest, you can cook or reheat your food on the fire, but, please, observe all fire safety rules. Do not light a fire in very dry hot weather, when leaving, be sure to extinguish the fire, use dry fallen branches to light the fire, try to start a fire in the place of the old one.
